2012 will be the fifth year we have hosted the MEGA WALK and it will be bigger and better than ever, we hope to build on the number of participants from last year which was over 1250! Although this is a social event, designed to get people out for a walk along the Rotary Pathway, there will be prizes for each man and woman who comes first and second in the MEGA walk and the Half MEGA.

All proceeds raised will again go to a local charity who is yet to be named, but we always ensure the money raised in Hawkes Bay stays in Hawkes Bay to benefit local people

There are four events to cater to all levels of fitness and ability.

The MEGA WALK is a 28km. run or walk. The event starts at Mitre 10 MEGA, Hastings at 7.30am. Participants will follow a clearly defined route through Hastings to the Showgrounds. The course then heads towards Whakatu before joining the Rotary Pathway at Pakowhai Park, adjacent to the Chesterhope Bridge. It then follows the Pathway to Ahuriri. The finishline is at Mitre 10 MEGA, Napier.

The HALF MEGA is a 15km run or walk that starts at Awatoto, opposite the southern end of the Fertiliser Works, at 9am. This event also follows the Rotary Pathway and finishes at Mitre 10 MEGA, Napier.

The SHORT MEGA is a 6.5km. version which starts behind Ocean Spa on the Marine Parade at 10am.

The MEGA MEANDER is a 3.5km walk or meander starting at 9.00am at Perfume point at Ahuriri.

The course will be clearly marked.

All entrants will receive a Hi-Vis vest as part of the entry fee and each participant will be issued with a transponder which will allow us to time you (subject to availability). For those requiring transport to the start points before the event, or to collect vehicles after the prize giving, buses will be available.

We recommend a suitable level of fitness for entrants in the MEGA WALK. The 28km walk can take 4.5 to 5.5 hours to complete, depending on your level of fitness, so start your training program now!

You need to bring your own drink bottle. There will be refreshment stops with water filling facilities and toilets at regular intervals. See the "What you need to know" page for full details.

Due to the large number of people on the walkway we request no dogs or bikes on the course.
